What Is Progressive Christianity? Embracing Growth, Truth & Righteousness

Faith was never meant to be stagnant. It is the very nature of human existence to evolve, to expand in wisdom, and to question what we once accepted as truth. This is the essence of Progressive Christianity—a faith that acknowledges growth as not only normal but necessary.

Breaking Free from Miseducation & Oppression

History has shown us how religious institutions have been misused to subjugate women, suppress people of color, and uphold unjust hierarchies. For centuries, interpretations of scripture were wielded as tools of control rather than as sources of divine guidance. But truth has a way of shining through the cracks.

Progressive Christianity recognizes the harm caused by systems that distorted righteousness, replacing compassion and liberation with judgment and exclusion. As we learn more—about history, humanity, and the God who walks beside us—we understand that faith must be reclaimed from oppression and re-centered in love and justice.

Evolving in Faith Is Expected, Not Feared

Some might resist change, insisting that the Christianity of today must mirror the past exactly. But what is faith if not a journey? Spiritual evolution is not abandonment; it is deepening understanding. Just as we learn more about science, philosophy, and history, our comprehension of God’s divine presence expands. We are invited to grow beyond outdated limitations and move into a fuller, richer experience of spirituality.

Righteousness: A Personal, Sacred Journey

We believe righteousness is essential, but we also acknowledge that it is not one-size-fits-all. Every individual must discern what righteousness looks like in their own life—through wisdom, reflection, and divine connection. It is not dictated by rigid dogma or external pressure but guided by personal conviction and the Spirit that speaks uniquely to each heart.

A fitting scripture for this idea is Romans 14:5 (NIV):

"One person considers one day more sacred than another; another considers every day alike. Each of them should be fully convinced in their own mind."

This verse highlights the personal nature of faith and righteousness, emphasizing that each individual must seek understanding through wisdom, reflection, and spiritual conviction rather than rigid external pressures.

A Call to Authentic Faith

Progressive Christianity calls us to seek truth, question deeply, and embrace the ever-expanding nature of divine wisdom. It challenges us to discard harmful interpretations and replace them with an inclusive, evolving spirituality—one that honors every race, gender, and individual path.

We are not meant to remain the same. We are meant to grow. And in that growth, we move closer to divine truth.
